A bold step toward greener refrigerators is underway as the Commission invites public input on energy labeling and ecodesign for both household and commercial models.
Today, a public consultation was launched as part of reviewing four EU regulations aimed at pushing producers to design refrigerators that use less energy. The review strengthens requirements beyond mere energy efficiency and consumption, addressing reparability, recyclability, and other sustainability factors.
Participants can engage through two separate surveys: one focuses on ecodesign and energy efficiency for household refrigerators (link provided), and the other targets commercial refrigeration equipment, including devices used in supermarkets (link provided). These surveys are designed to capture wide-ranging feedback in an open and transparent process.
The consultation period runs from 4 December 2025 to 26 February 2026.
