Uganda Launches Historic Agricultural Trade Conference in China's Qingdao for Investment Boost (2026)

Uganda's Agricultural Revolution: Unlocking Opportunities in Qingdao, China

In a groundbreaking move, Uganda has unveiled its inaugural Agricultural Trade and Investment Conference in the vibrant city of Qingdao, China, marking a pivotal moment in the nation's economic development. This historic event, hosted on December 10 by the Embassy of Uganda in Beijing, in collaboration with the Qingdao Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, gathered a high-level delegation led by the esteemed Ambassador Oliver Wonekha.

The delegation comprised a diverse group of officials, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), and the private sector. Their collective mission was to showcase Uganda's immense potential as an agricultural powerhouse and a prime destination for investment.

In her powerful keynote address, Ambassador Wonekha emphasized Uganda's stability, its burgeoning youthful workforce, and the country's vast agricultural potential. She highlighted these factors as compelling reasons for investors to forge transformative partnerships with Uganda, focusing on industrialization, technology transfer, investment financing, and trade facilitation.

"Uganda is poised to foster groundbreaking collaborations grounded in industrialization, technology transfer, investment financing, and trade facilitation," she asserted. "We present unparalleled opportunities in agricultural production, value addition, and manufacturing for both regional and continental markets. We seek partners who recognize Uganda's long-term potential and are eager to join us on this journey."

The enthusiasm for this initiative was reciprocated by Qingdao's representatives, including Mr. Cui Zuo, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Qingdao Municipal Committee and President of the Qingdao General Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Zuo expressed Qingdao's advanced capabilities in modern agriculture, aquaculture, and agri-technology, emphasizing the city's eagerness to collaborate with Uganda in expanding agricultural cooperation and establishing mutually beneficial industrial value chains.

Addressing Chinese investors, Mr. Fred Kakooza, deputy director general of UIA's One-Stop Centre, underscored Uganda's readiness to welcome large-scale agricultural and manufacturing investments. He highlighted the country's generous tax incentives, robust protections for foreign investors, and the vast opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, and agro-processing. Mr. Kakooza extended a warm invitation to Chinese partners to establish manufacturing and processing hubs in Uganda, positioning the country as a regional export powerhouse.

The Uganda-Qingdao Agricultural Trade and Investment Conference aims to catalyze bilateral trade, facilitate technology transfer, build capacity, and establish Uganda as a manufacturing and export hub for African markets. The organizers envision this forum as a catalyst for long-term partnerships, strengthening Uganda's position in international agricultural value chains and fostering economic growth across the continent.
